For my project i want to figuratitvely package myself. To see how the packaging is done today for dolls and figureines I went around Leeds looking at 6 different shops of varying prices on these figures. Looking at a range of different shops and packaging will help to influence my decision on what shaping and size the packaging will be and what i can use in my own design.
Looking at Mary Shortle shop in leeds, are passionate about dolls, teddy bears, plush toys. the collection of vintage barbies and erie realistic dolls. the price range of these are £39.99 to £245.00 and are very expensive. The packaging in minimal and the dolls really sell themselves to a particular audience.
For any customisation of the garments which the doll might wear I will use the fabric spray paint and stencil set to achieve a unique doll of myself. To show that i am not just another drone or doll, that i am different and unique.
more contemporary toys and figurines, are of children's television shows and films. From ben ten to spiderman. the packaging is much more exciting in these ranges with use of colours and information about other figurines which are available.
I particularly like the use of what the contents has on the back of the packaging which i will use in my own work to promote myself further.
Going to another shop i found ken dolls. these are a much more realistic items in terms of scale, not exaggerated muscles and clothing.
Finally i found a 1:6 scale figure, which are perfectly proportioned and comes with a range of accessories.
In conclusion i found some aspects which will help in my design. I found that the more expensive items had more interesting packaging, and utilises all of the packaging, including the use of attributes and functions which i can apply to my own work.
