Adidas Spezial Exhibition

Housing 650 pairs of rare, vintage, dead stock, re-issues and collaboration styles from the personal collections of numerous adidas collectors, the adidas Spezial exhibition, part of Design Manchester 14, is a chance to literally walk through the adidas archives and experience adidas history first-hand. Alongside the collection a very special one-off Spezial will be unveiled.

This trip was very exciting as Adidas originals trainers are something which I have a keen interest in and to see the actual originals of the originals was brilliant. Also the exhibition space is something which I was interested in. I was lucky enough to speak one of the curators at the event and she was very helpful in telling me how the space was selected and how it was curated to show the 800 pairs of trainers.

She worked for Sparkle Street Creative.

Design Manchester

The event and the host Malcolm Garrett (left).

Representing Leeds at the event.

Design Manchester was very useful to hear from established designers. Unit Editions, Micheal C Place, Rob Lowe, Ross Phillips, Rejane Dal Bello and Peter Saville. I took something from each of the guest speakers, although I found that Rejane Dal Bello was the most relevant speaker to my own practice.

Senior Graphic Designer & Illustrator Rejane Dal Bello is since 2012 based in London. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, she began her career working for renowned branding & design companies in Brazil.

Her interest in social design is something which I admire from her. The reange she has is something which I understood from her seminar, and her experimentation to find the right outcome is very impressive. The volume of printed work she creates for a single brief is amazing also, nothing is left. She has been hugely successful and work is very simple but effective for the brief.

Manchester Print Faire

A collection of business cards which I thought were the most interesting at the faire, I have also narrowed down the most interesting and suitable to my own practice. I also managed to meet some professionals from G F Smith which ere happy yo talk to me about sustainable stock and inks. They also gave me a colour plan and notebook, to shut me up I think.

Jessie Leoung

After receiving an email from Jessie to help her in promotional material. I phoned her soon after looking at her website to see if I thought it would be worthwhile doing. I phoned to show enthusiasm and that I am interested, the phone call lasted 10 minutes where I asked more about the brief and herself and her work.

After a 10 minute phone call and a few emails being sent back and forth unfortunately I have not been selected, although I am considering going through with the brief myself. I also know a very good photographer at the end of this and will stay in contact.

END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION

NAME

Bobby Jones

1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

sMy networking and communication skills. Not only throughout College and peers but also outside the walls of LCA and to the rest of the Design World, which has been fun and an very educational and inspiring experience.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

My crafting skills and knowledge of professional printers have informed my work and with my contacts with Hobs (John) I manage to get discount and a quick turn a round on printing as well as a professional finish.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

My strengths in my work would be my presentation skills and leadership in group work. I really enjoy group work and taking a creative director role, keeping the team motivated and on task. I think it was clear to see when presenting as an individuals and in the group work, as well as the quality in work for the group.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

A weakness which I can identify in my work would be, my time management and keeping in budget. I spend £30 pounds on my prints and some reprints, although the end product was worth it, my budget was only £20.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1. Time management - keeping on top of my work.

2. blogging - To keep up to date with my work.

3. Bring in my old work to compare the old with the new, to show progression in a physical form.

4. More visuals in my presentation to allow my work to be spoken for and to have a more engaging presentation.

5. Proof reading and more mock ups to know that the process will work effectively and it reads well.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:
(please indicate using an ‘x’)

5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.

Final Self Promotion Packaging Photography

Self Promotion Packaging;

The overall craftsmanship and finish is something which I am generally happy with. Here are some pictures showcasing me, as a doll.

I Had fun with my dolly.

Final Stationary Photography

My finals include, Business cards, Brand guidelines, Letterhead, Creative CV, Invoice and Mail shot.

Overall I am not very happy with the quality as I feel the lighting is not great, for my Behance I will have to re do the photographs after I get my work back. It was rushed and not the most professional approach. I had a photography slot booked for Wednesday but I thought I would be in the studio presenting for the day and cancelled the slot, only to find out I would be presenting on Thursday.
